What You Need to Know About the Gulf Coast Marathon
History of the Marathon
The Gulf Coast Marathon has been running since 2015 and takes runners on a scenic route from Pass Christian to Biloxi, MS. The race follows along the Gulf Coast, offering amazing views of the water while you run (and most importantly a gentle sea breeze throughout the marathon). The course is mostly flat with a few gentle hills, making it a great option for runners of all levels. Along the way, participants can enjoy views of the Gulf Coast and several local landmarks, including Beauvoir, the home of Jefferson Davis. In addition to the full Marathon, you can sign up for a half marathon, Margaritaville 5K, and Chevron Mississippi Gulf Coast Kids Marathon.
How to Prepare for a Marathon
Running a marathon can be a daunting task, but with enough preparation, you can make it through the race feeling strong and accomplished. Here are some tips to help you get ready for the marathon:
– Start training early. It’s important to start training well in advance of the race so that your body has time to build up stamina. Try to run at least three times a week in the months leading up to the marathon.
– Build up your distance gradually. Don’t try to run 26 miles all at once! Instead, gradually increase your distance each week so that your body is used to running long distances.
– Stretch regularly. Stretching after each run will help keep your muscles loose and prevent injuries.
– Hydrate adequately. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your runs to stay hydrated.
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to completing the Gulf Coast Marathon!
